The Allenspark Community Wildfire Protection Plan is for and by the people of Allenspark to inform and educate property owners and residents about escape plans from a forest fire, easy ways to slow down a fire around your house, and what people should know and do to be prepared for a fire in our area. It will help our firefighters by mapping water resources, vegetation types and important features that should be saved. The end result will be a comprehensive fire protection plan for our area and open the doors for grants and other moneys for fire mitigation and defense.
Allenspark Beetle Control
Allenspark Beetle Control (ABC) is a group of concerned Allenspark area citizens who care about their forest and want to fight against the epidemic infestation of the mountain pine beetle and other beetles that are destroying the trees on the Front Range.
Peak to Peak Wood
The Community Forestry Sort Yard will reopen for the season on April 14! County residents can use tree and slash drop-off site just north of Allenspark/Meeker Park at no charge through August 15th. The hours of operation will be: Tuesday-Saturday: 9am-5pm. Closed: Sunday and Monday. The site is located north of Meeker Park on Highway 7, about one-eighth of a mile north of the Boulder/Larimer County line on the east side of the road. The site will accept any size trees with no diameter limit, although the county prefers logs that are cut in 8, 10 or 12 foot lengths with branches cut flush with the trunk because these can be used for posts and poles. Trees will be processed based on their condition or value for other applications. Beetle-infested wood will not be accepted during beetle flight (which takes place roughly from mid-July through the end of September). Please read the Collection Specifications before you start cutting.
Rocky Mountain NP Projects in our Area
Rocky Mountain NP is beginning the process of preparing a new Fire Management Plan for the park. The current plan was approved in 1992 and does not fully address the challenges we now face with the bark beetle epidemic, other forest health issues, and community wildfire protection. They would like to hear your ideas about what the new Fire Management Plan should include. You may submit comments in writing, through the method of your choice. Submit your comments online. The comment period closes on 03/06/2009 at 11:59 PM.
